The Quality of Reason…

From Descartes to Peirce – The Symmetry of the Quality of Reason

“The progress of science has always been the result of a close interplay between our concepts of the universe and our observations on nature. The former can only evolve out of the latter and yet the latter is also conditioned greatly by the former. Thus in our exploration of nature, the interplay between our concepts and our observations may sometimes lead to totally unexpected aspects among already familiar phenomena” …

- Tsung-Dao Lee

“Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe… What we believe determines what we take to be true[1]”…

- David Bohm

From Descartes [2] to Peirce [3]

From Cartesian Dualism – Cartesianism – to Integration

Reason is a Quality[4] — Perception is Action

We are interdependent and interconnected

Reason is finding harmony — a Symmetry — between our Beliefs (Ground Motives) and the complex Systems we Inhabit (Ground Truths)

The integration of our Mental World through abstraction with our experience, actions and agency in an emergent Material World

A shift from a Classical Aristotelean Logic & Reason (Natural Laws) to an Entangled Peircian Logic & Reason (Qualities) that embraces – Abduction – Induction – and – Deduction – and – the Principle of Symmetry – recognising the emergent complex nature of our Material World

“Since the beginning of physics, symmetry considerations have provided us with an extremely powerful and useful tool in our effort to understand nature. Gradually they have become the backbone of our theoretical formulation of physical laws”…

- Tsung-Dao Lee

Friction, Reflexivity, Assimilation , Modification, Action and Open Inquiry are how we Learn how to Learn

Reason is an embodied abstraction

From a Classical World of Reason – Bayesian Inference – or – Frequentists – Mental Structures – Mental World – to – a Quantum World of Reason – Embodied Abstraction – Integrated Structures – Mental World + Material World – Beyond Cartesian Dualism to Integration

“A quality is something capable of being completely embodied. A law never can be embodied in its character as a law except by determining a habit. A quality is how something may or might have been. A law is how an endless future must continue to be”…

- Charles Sanders Peirce

“The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence”…

- Rabindranath Tagore

Ideology is a form of asymmetry. A phenomena where our Mental World – Models of the World – are no longer in harmony with an emergent complex Material World. A reluctance to Learn how to Learn and update our Models of the World – despite increasing Friction – cognitive dissonance.

Learning to Learn – Reflexivity – is a process of updating our Mental World – Models of the World – to better align with an emergent complex Material World.
